Chapters Book Shop
Sharon Ritchie - The Knoxville native, who has called Galax home for the past 25 years, first fell in love with books after reading Charlotte’s Web as a child. That love grew and grew and grew… into a bookstore! Now, she gets to spend lots of time with books; talking about them with customers and authors, selecting titles to line the store shelves, and occasionally, actually getting to read one! Southern fiction is a particular favorite, however, she would never limit herself to just one genre.
Karen Carroll – Karen hails from southern California, but asks that you not hold that against her. She moved to Galax with her husband in 1994 and has enjoyed raising their family in this area of Virginia. Reading has always been one of her desired leisure activities. Stealing away to a quiet place to read is like experiencing a mini-vacation! When she is not running around the country spending time with family (she has 6 adult children who no longer reside in Galax), you can usually see her behind the counter at Chapters. She has been associated with the store since December of 1996.
Smadar Chaffee – Smadar was born and raised in Israel; she made the move to the US in 1986, when her American born husband, Lee, decided to come back home. They came to Galax in 1992 with their three sons. Smadar’s interests include traveling, reading, and helping with various civic and school organizations. General fiction books have been a long standing favorite, however, she has recently begun to enjoy science fiction. She has been a Chapters employee since 1998.
Susan Littrell – Susan was a faithful customer for many years before she joined the Chapters staff. She loves to read and splits her time between all genres. She is known to be as engrossed in a well-written children’s book as easily as a mystery or general fiction title. She graduated from Carroll County High School and Virginia Tech, before heading to Oregon for graduate school. She came back to Galax with her son, Matthew, to be close to her extended family.
Theresa Stone Lazo – Theresa may be the newest member of the Chapters Bookshop family, but she is no stranger to books. She and her husband, family practice doctor Bob Lazo, had their own bookstore in Wytheville, VA from 1983-1988. When Bob decided to enter med school, they chose to sell the store to pursue a new dream. A lot has changed since then, like computers, but she is delighted to be back in the business. Her love of reading has never changed. Her favorites are biographies, historical and modern literature. She resides in Galax with her husband. They have three sons: Nicholas, James, and Robert.
